"The Prayer" was a commissioned by a friend. She wanted a sculpture that paid homage to one of her favorite saints. The saint of her devotion was Saint Therese of Lisieux who is also known as “The Little Flower.” In thinking about this concept, I thought of using two hands offering up a rose. The rose is a visual metaphor for a prayer and it is also associated with the Blessed Mother and the saint herself. I asked my patron to be my hand model, so I could actually sculpt her own hands in prayer.
