This sculpture is installed in front of the flag at the entrance of the Distinguished Service Memorial Park in Stuart, Florida. When I developed the artistic concept for this work, the guideline was to make a sculpture which was not war specific but celebrated distinguished service. When considering this, I thought of a family member holding a folded flag against their heart. It shows two arms holding the flag of a relative against their heart. Why had they received it? For Service above and beyond the call of duty. That is what distinguished service signifies.
